Skipper and hostess/chef couples are needed to crew luxury yachts (Jeanneau 50), based in the British Virgin Islands and chartered from November thru June.
Job Requirements: The successful applicant couples must share a love of sailing, enjoy hospitality, and be experienced sailors. Between them, they must actively address any maintenance issues and be able to prepare casual-gourmet meals for charter guests.
The skipper must be qualified to RYA Yacht Master with Commercial Endorsement. Although no specific qualifications are required of the hostess, he/she must be an excellent cook and experienced sailor.
The applicants should be available to start work mid-September in order to allow time for familiarization and training before sailing with their first charter guests at the beginning of November. (We also have an opening available immediately. Please contact us as soon as possible, if you are interested and available.)
Personal Characteristics: Couples must have sailed together extensively either as a hobby or professionally. Ideal applicants will need a mature relationship to successfully manage working together in close proximately. They should be aged in their mid-to-late 20s or older with a youthful, energetic attitude. They should have a relaxed, easy-going nature and be capable of getting along with a wide variety of people. At the same time, beneath their relaxed nature must be a strong work ethic.
This position would suit those who can “think out of the box”, going to great lengths, if necessary to ensure that their guests have the vacation holiday of a lifetime. For example, serving a romantic breakfast on the beach for a honeymoon couple, or planning a visit to the dolphin park for a family with young children, etc. They should want to meet people of all ages and find it rewarding to help others enjoy themselves.
Although some parts of the job can be very glamorous and fun, the successful couple must be willing to “get their hands dirty”, as they will be responsible for the everyday cleaning and maintenance of the yacht. A basic understanding of marine engines and electrics is expected.
This position would suit those looking to play a role in the opportunities that a small, but growing company can offer. This could include, but is not limited to suggesting new ways to improve the charter experience, streamline yacht care & maintenance, as well as crew satisfaction. As additional boats and crews join the fleet, the position of lead crew will be available for the interested couple. Above all, the ideal crew must be ready to simultaneously work hard and have fun!

The BVI Sailing Venue
If your prime objective is to enjoy life while helping others to do the same, as well as earning a living sailing, sailing with Add To Life Yachting in the BVI is just the place for you! The BVI is comprised of sixty beautiful desert islands, only fifteen of which are inhabited. There are silver sand beaches with funky beach bars like the Soggy Dollar, Foxy’s and Bomba's Shack. Plus sailors are spoilt by the hundreds of secret bays and hidden coves to explore, most with safe anchorages.
This is a fantastic location for diving and snorkeling. The calm waters are literally teeming with life, including turtles, exotic sponges and cup corals. The many reefs are dotted with old wrecks, and pirate legends abound! Diving is easily arranged and guests can be picked up directly from the yacht for a morning of incredible underwater sightseeing.
Nicknamed the “Disneyland” of sailing, because the close proximity between islands allows passage between islands in as little as 30 minutes and rarely more than two or three hours. Combined with its light, predictable winds and calm seas this makes the BVIs an ideal destination for guests who really want to relax and unwind.
Who needs much of an itinerary in this environment? (But click here if you'd like to see a sample!) Our yacht charters normally start in Tortola, as the yacht can anchor in Trellis Bay which is adjacent the airport. Beyond putting together a rough plan of where to go and what to, the final decisions can wait until the guests decide! Here are a few highlights:
Tortola at the center of the chain of islands is the largest at 21.5 square miles. Cane Garden Bay, on Tortola’s north shore is a crescent-shaped beach with good anchorage and many bars and restaurants to enjoy.
Virgin Gorda, the third largest island is home to The Baths, where huge boulders provide a myriad of rock pools, secret beaches and walks.
Norman Island is reputedly the site of buried treasure from 15th century Spanish galleons and pirating. It has also been rumored to be the location for John Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate tale Treasure Island. Today, it is best known for its underwater geological formations “The Caves” – a highly photographed snorkeling site.
Just off Peter Island, lies the wreck of the RMS Rhone, which sank in 1867. It is one of the most extraordinary dive sites in the Caribbean, as the wreck is perfectly preserved – right up to its crow’s nest!
For deserted beaches, head to Anegada. This coral island lying only 28 ft above sea level has beaches reputed to be the loveliest in the Caribbean! It is also famous for its fresh lobster. Bone fishing off of Anegada island can be arranged for any guests who want a thrilling fishing challenge.
Jost Van Dyke is famous for its rum, as well as its bars which include Foxy's Tamarind Bar and the Soggy Dollar Bar (home of the 'Painkiller' cocktail). Nearby Sandy Cay is a real desert island. And not to be missed, Prickly Pear Island’s stunning beaches are only accessible from the sea.
Weather conditions: The islands offer calm, sheltered waters. They enjoy a sub-tropical climate with constant, gentle trade winds and an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius - 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
