In mid-1995, we, the founders, of Add To Life Yachting revisited an old dream of taking an extended trip through Europe. Our only complication was our new five month old son! He would learn to walk soon and we thought we’d better hurry before such a trip would be next to impossible. So we settled on a sailing trip through the Mediterranean, visiting the coastal cities and harbor towns in France, Spain, and Italy along the way.

Planning this two month voyage was a logistical challenge, but in hind sight, the experience we gained turned out to be an unexpected cornerstone to our current successes in the crewed charter business. We packed six large crates with infant formula, diapers, baby food, medical supplies and all the other items needed to survive a two month voyage with our young baby. The logistical planning, the course work required for proper certification as skipper, the navigation, the piloting, the weather analysis experience, and overall management required for this undertaking laid the foundation for our future charter business.

Our early family sailing experience with our first newborn was the trip of a lifetime. That trip planted the seed that evolved into our relentless motivation to share with others the “zest for life” that these experiences can provide; they nourish the soul like nothing else can!

However, it was the birth of our second child that fueled our commitment to quality, and drives us to make every sailing vacation a memorable experience. Our son J.C. was born with Down Syndrome. Experiencing the pain and frustration of a disability first hand has made us passionate about helping others. Therefore, Add To Life Yachting proudly supports service organizations and fundraising efforts that are dedicated to assisting children with many types of disabilities, as well as their families.

Our dream for the future is to open a dockside facility called “J.C.’s Place”, with our son J.C. walking the docks and providing Add To Life charters with a final bag of ice and a smile (or hug) for our guests, as they head out on another sailing adventure. In the meantime, we will be working hard to send all our yachting guests home with big smiles of their own at the end of their vacation!
